Congratulations, you made it!

Yep, it’s Merry Christmas and happy holidays all over again – and you’ve made it! So relax, recharge the batteries and come back next year better than ever. Remember to take a moment to reflect on how you’ve slid in sideways to bring an awesome year to a close. Check out this article on how to reflect on the past year for business owners.

While you’re doing that, why not tune in to our Outside eclectic mix of summer tunes on Spotify? Here’s the link. Let us know what you think of our taste, or lack of…

We’re shutting up shop on close of business Thursday the 22nd of December and we’re back in full flight on Monday the 16th of January 2017!
If you miss us too much in the off season, give Cam 027 366 2272 or Tom 027 370 2319 a call and we’ll give you your accounting fix.

Xero Tip – have a system

While you’re galavanting around this lovely land of ours over the holidays, you might be running your numbers on your phone, rather than at the desk. Couple of quick pointers to give yourself a break and do the minimum, for the maximum ease:

Take photos of all your receipts and log them into the Xero app on the fly. Don’t reconcile, you can do this when you’re back at the desk!
Make sure the date you thumb into the phone is the same as paid date on the receipt. Do it at the time and it’s a no-brainer.
Get the ‘how did you pay’ right – choose the account that paid for it.
Keep it simple stupid and you’ll be hunky dorey 🙂

The app also helps you keep track of spending, so you can reflect on your choices when you come back in for the new year…

The ugly tax stuff

Before you shut everything down and hit holiday mode with the full force that it deserves; make sure you’re comfortable with the following things:

GST and provisional tax are due 15 January 2017. We’ll let you know any obligations by Wednesday the 21st of December.
Terminal tax (for those without the extension of time) will be due 7 February 2017. We would have told you when we did your accounts but we’ll remind you again the first week we’re back next year.
Thank you so much for having us on your team; we’re bloody lucky to have you on ours. Bigger and better, (or smaller and sweeter), things are around the corner for us all in 2017.
